Acting as spotter 1 ' ' ,- Kathy Young is prepared tor anythin to :': New opportunities available to girl gymnasts Twenty-tour carefully selected ninth grade girls served as gym leaders, assisting teachers With large seventh and eighth grade gym classes. They conducted exercises, helped stu- dents on the tumbling apparatus and refereed team games. This was the first year gym as- sistants Were tried. It was good for the girls se- lected, since there were no ninth grade gym classes because of the overcrowded conditions. Also new in the physical education category was Gymnastics Club, sponsored by Mrs. Carol Ferguson. The club, which met after school, con- sisted ot 10 girls in eighth and ninth grade. Like the gym assistants, they, too, were carefully selected.
