The cheerleaders' enthusiam shows in everything they d Cindy Pauly, Cindy Schwab, Sue Sebring, Karen'SchiHne and Debbie Morris hurry toward the bleachers following hall-time presentation so the boys can get the ball rolling. Eighth grade cheerleaders give a hearty Hello to rooters lor the opposing team. Teri Billette, Cindy Harris, Sue Collins, Diane Coffey, Holly Koiima, and Pam Rice pep up the crowd at the beginning of a football game. Cheerleaders yell for touchdowns, Mariners had a lot to cheer about this year, with all the football and basketball teams having fine records. Because of this it wasn't hard for the cheerleaders to keep the crowds interested. In the gym and on the field, the girls cheered the teams on to the victorious end. At cheerleading camp last summer, the eighth and ninth grade squads each won the Most Outstanding Iunior High trophy. The eighth grade cheerleaders won two third place ribbons. The ninth graders won a fourth place ribbon and a skit ribbon. They also got on award for their pomporn routine. Mrs. Charlene Wright sponsored the ninth grade girls and Miss Carol Phelps sponsored the seventh and eighth grade cheerleaders. Acting as spotter 1 ' ' ,- Kathy Young is prepared tor anythin to :': New opportunities available to girl gymnasts Twenty-tour carefully selected ninth grade girls served as gym leaders, assisting teachers With large seventh and eighth grade gym classes. They conducted exercises, helped stu- dents on the tumbling apparatus and refereed team games. This was the first year gym as- sistants Were tried. It was good for the girls se- lected, since there were no ninth grade gym classes because of the overcrowded conditions. Also new in the physical education category was Gymnastics Club, sponsored by Mrs. Carol Ferguson. The club, which met after school, con- sisted ot 10 girls in eighth and ninth grade. Like the gym assistants, they, too, were carefully selected.
