Art, Business, Foreign Language, l-lomemaking Electives: fun plus work The enterprising crafts classes busted them- selves with interesting and unusual projects, such as photo montage, light polarization, and bottle sculpture. On the other side of the hall, imaginative students in the art classes expressed themselves in charcoal, oil paints, pastels, and vvater colors, many of Which brightened the other areas of the building during the year. The energetic students of the business and typing classes kept busy at such tasks as office occupations, bookkeeping, shorthand, and typing. Gourmet cooks and fashion designers were developed in home economics. The seventh and ninth grade girls prepared appealing appetizers, scrumptious desserts, main courses, and breakfasts, in addition to toiling endlessly at the sewing machine. In the foreign language department, classes found that learning can be fun with bingo, folk songs, and cultural discussions about life abroad. French ll classes prepared their own Christmas dinner, featuring snails, octopus, and oysters as well as the traditional turkey and chocolate yule log. They also Went to the Festival of Arts in Ann Arbor and the Gakland. University Foreign Language Festival. -i?. i'I'm. FRANCE me Pronunciation is the key to better communication. Mr. Jack Perry and Miss Betsy VanWey use the earphones to check stu- dent's progress. Success of a new recipe is guaranteed when Mrs. Mary Jean Jozwiak and Mrs. Donna Elwell combine efforts to prepare a sample. 20

Industrial Arts, Physical Education Manual arts, sportsg a step to the future Math lectures during gymnastics? With rice pud- ding on the side? Mason's most all-around teacher is obviously Mrs. Norma Clark. 22 Perspective and dimension took shape on paper in the hands of drafting students. As skills developed, so did an interesting variety of unique plans and blueprints. Projects and contest entries led to prizes awarded to Wood shop workers. Starting with only a block of Wood, hyclroboats, cars, and rockets were some of the many projects con- structed in the class. In metal shop, such articles as magazine racks, candle holders, and even a cat cage emerged. Everyone kept fit with the physical fitness courses offered to all grades. The program for the year ranged from stimulating calisthenics to all kinds of group games and sports. Basketball or cage ball anyone? Both sports are specialties -of gym teachers Mrs. Carol Ferguson and Mrs. Charlene Wright.
