Seventh Eighth Grade Track l 9 d spikes track season How could you describe the swiftness of the members of the seventh and eighth grade track team? Quite easily, with such words as fast, quick, and blinding, to name just a few. Mason's super-fast, junior sprinters, led by Coach Donald Pence, literally flew down tracks consistently throughout the season. The abound- ing number of rimners that came out won their fair share of meets, plus a few extras just for fun. Most of the success of the team came from hard practice, which included exercise sessions of push-ups, sit-ups, and long periods of sprint- ing and long distance running. With this kind of potential in the early years of seventh and eighth grade, just think of what heights the ninth grade track teams of the future will reach! t ' we , , d 4 , 't' Y . lg ' '17-' . ,.,. ,:-323.22 A 1. allhfj .. gee, ' I I it A Y J fd. 1 i U ,M in ,JW I. f,7grrr,4IuY Y 1 I , T' , f' 4.nQa:.4, 4 Setting the pace for the long distance run, speed- sters Dennis Goodson and Bob Wareck sprint to the finish line, followed closely by Paul McClain and Mark McDonald. Coach Don bastle and his durable squad of trackmen showed that the key to winning is really quality, not quantity. The Winning combination tor the team seemed to be long periods of hard running, with quick wind sprints and calisthenics mixed in between. This, plus plenty of spirit among the members of the team, helped bring a Winning season to the track and field participants of Mason.
