The success of the campisnow a matter of history, and at the present time even more ideas in regard to this project are maturing. The fall term of 1930 was the sixtieth anniversary of the incorporation of the Institute, which was observed with becoming rites in conjunction with the Tercentenary Celebration of Hoboken. This sixtieth year, the third year of President Davis’s administration, was also characterized by many changes at the Stute. There were many revisions both in the curriculum and the faculty, in an effort to establish a more complete and broadening system of education for engineering students. The Honor Point system of refunding tuition was put into effect throughout the entire Freshman class. Many of these changes are still in an experimental state, but by co-operation on the part of every one connected with the Stute, it is hoped that satisfactory solutions will be found before long. Another great step forward was the founding of the Graduate School, offering the degree of Master of Science. Its enrollment numbers thirty-three men, many of whom are graduates of Stevens and some of whom are being sent by the U. S. N avy to take advanced courses. Under the direction of President Davis, Stevens is taking a very active part in the elimina- tion of the smoke nuisance in the Metropolitan area. Dr. Davis, since the beginning of his administration, has been working to arouse the interest of the people to this great evil. In September a research bureau was established at the Institute, headed by Colonel Whitlock, well known in engineering work, who was made Research Professor. In November, Hudson County co-operated by passing a smoke abatement ordinance, and establishing a commission made up of engineers to take charge of the matter.
