r 4 Preparing for the future Several Social Science classes were offered this year and were designed to help students prepare for their futures by teach- ing them of the past and the present. This was the last year that Economics and Soci- ology were required subjects. Both will be- come electives. Economics acquaints stu- dents with economy in everyday life and Sociology makes the students aware of so- cial problems and how to cope with them. American History was a required subject which helps people to understand the United States by learning how it has developed. Other classes which dealt with the world were International Relations, Htunan- ities, and Psychology. All of these were electives. Mr. Mead lectures his Econ class on G.N.P. Chip Barber shows his humanities project to Central Junior Jane Bosveld.

Biology students find microscopes useful in their study of . living things. Laboratory experi- ments help students to understand Biology. Biology, a required subject, Chemistry and Physics, both electives, were offered at Stevens this year. Biology deals with the study of living things and is taught through laboratory work. Chemistry included the study of atoms, molecules, and compounds which lead to the study of various chemi- cal laws. Physics dealt with the study of heat, light, sound, mechanics, electricity, and atom physics.
