r 4 Preparing for the future Several Social Science classes were offered this year and were designed to help students prepare for their futures by teach- ing them of the past and the present. This was the last year that Economics and Soci- ology were required subjects. Both will be- come electives. Economics acquaints stu- dents with economy in everyday life and Sociology makes the students aware of so- cial problems and how to cope with them. American History was a required subject which helps people to understand the United States by learning how it has developed. Other classes which dealt with the world were International Relations, Htunan- ities, and Psychology. All of these were electives. Mr. Mead lectures his Econ class on G.N.P. Chip Barber shows his humanities project to Central Junior Jane Bosveld.

Language promotes understanding The four languages which were offer- ed at SHS were French, German, Spanish, and Latin. All provided excellent oppor- tunities to become acquainted with the cus- toms and ideas of the respective countries. The classes progressed numerically, the larger number representing the more ad- vanced class. By continuing with a language for several consecutive years many stu- dents have become fluent and some, through summer programs, have the opportunity to p study in a foreign country.
