204 New books for a new library were pro- vided in the new Stevens High School. Boys and girls, on a voluntary basis, kept the li- brary in tip-top condition. During the year they filled the library with new books by giving them cards and a place on a shelf. They also filed cards, checked in books and gave assistance to anyone who needed it. Some student librarians were put to work as secretaries typing up book information and filing cards. Others mended old books and pasted pockets in for new books. The newly furnished library was equipped with individual booths for private studying. There were also large and small tables throughout the room with revolving soft cushioned chairs to match. A separate room was provided for magazines and news- papers that could not be checked out. Most of the books were newly purchased and the magazines and newspapers were donated.
