, , ii 5 I 2 ' Dr. Charles Lindly Superintendent of Schools School Board decides school policies The Board of Education determined the policies which would most benefit the school system. Much time and effort was contributed by each of the board members in order to make education in Rapid City successful. The second year that Dr. Charles Lindly held the office of Superintendent of Schools marked the opening of the second high school in Rapid City. Approval of the new complex was given after passing the inspection by the School Board on December 2, 1969 and stu- dents first attended classes on December 3, 1969. Dr. Robert Rice, Director of Secondary Education, coordinated the new curricula of the secondary schools, supervised actions, and recommended improvements to aid education. ew administrators appointed Opening Stevens High School was a difficult task which was met straight on by an experi- enced administration determined to take advan- tage of a new beginning. The Principal, Mr. Donald Varcoe, had the awesome responsibility as top executive of Stevens. He was aided by assistant principals, Mr. Carold Heier and Mr. Richard Owens. Counselors, Miss Mary Lark and Mr. Les- lie Nadeau, counselled students with emotional, social, and personal problems as well as help- ing with college selections. , Counselor Miss Mary Lark looks over college material with senior, Candy Forrette. Mr. Leslie Nadeau talks to sophomore, Bill Vallette, about his schedule. 15
