e o Friends On Campus One of the most rewarding and enjoyable positions on this cam- pus is that of the FOCUS staff member. We are the first people that new students meet upon their arrival at Stetson. Staff members assist new students and help them to integrate into campus life. More importantly, though, we are their friends. The FOCUS staff operates un- der the leadership of Jayne Mar- lowe, Director of Student Life, who keeps us on track and pro- vides us with suggestions, time, patience, and support. The backbone of the FOCUS program is the FOCUS group ses- sion. This is when each staff mem- ber meets with a group of new students and provides them with both information and an opportu- nity to meet many other students. Activities organized and conduct- ed by our staff included work- shops, a dance, a luau — The Goombay Smash , a beach party, and a nationally recognized enter- tainment icebreaker session called PLAYFAIR. FOCUS is not only beneficial to the new students, but to the staff as well. Many feel that their in- volvement has been the most fun and fulfilling experience of their college life. We hope that each of you will have the opportunity to participate in this great happening and get your own VIEW FROM WITHIN. C y 4y y PX: A Panhellenic Sisterhood The Rush Counselor program is a very valuable learning experi- ence for select Creek women. A Rho Chi (PX) should be a person who is very open-minded, friend- ly, and, of course, likes to have FUN!!! After selection, a PX retreat is held in order to become better ac- quainted with the Greek System, as well as with each other. On this weekend outing in the fall, the PX ' s not only learn the true meaning of Panhellenic spirit, but also how to help a rushee choose the sorority that will be best for her. After the work is over for the day, everyone ventures to a local establishment in Orange City to keep the PX tradi- tion alive. Throughout rush week, the PX ' s work with the sororities to make sure things run smoothly. In be- tween rush parties, sororities are still practicing and PX ' s are meeting with their rushees. With good communication, any difficulties that should arise can be resolved. However, in between meetings, the PX ' s always have time for fun. They can be seen eating together in the commons, socializing down- town, and singing nasty songs. All in all, this is a growing experi- ence for everyone involved. The rushees make new friends, the so- rorities become closer, and the PX ' s form a lasting Panhellenic Sis- terhood. SHERRY JUNKER Class of 87 ■AVIEW FROM WITHIN PX Ronda Webb shouts with joy as she and the Rho Chis reunite with their respective sororities. Pikes take their new pledges home in the fire truck. 6 Opening
