RANDOLPH MAssAcHUsE'r'rs Forty three STETSON l a WHITMAN 7 The underdogs in thls contest didnt bother the Blue Dev1ls tt tll This xsn t the first tlme Stetson has beaten Whitman with a few mln utes remarnmg the same thing happened last year In the frrst play of the game Whitman scored their first and final touchdown when on a reverse they took advantage of an unshlfted Blue Devll line and capitalrzed on thls mistake The point was good and Nxfhltmtn led 7 to 0 and thats the way the half ended During the last period two touchdowns were callel on Frank Corrigan Angle Dangora with live mln utes rem unmg threw a pass to Smitty who took it on the five and went over Loomer klckcl the ponnt that tied rt up With 1 few minute rematntng George Loomer ran hard through the left slde of the llne and scored the wmmnf td and that fim hed Whrtmin Bobby Mar com rugged end gave one of the finest de fensrve exh1b1t1ons ever seen on Stetson field He was lmmense throughout the struggle and Whitman found it lmposslble to gain around his end STFTSON 53 ROCKLAND 0 This mtde xt three in a row for the high fly mg Blue Devlls On the first pl ty of the gtme Ozzie Benlammo zipped around his right end broke into the clear and went 56 yards to pay dirt Loomer klcked the point Frank1e Cor rtgtn sped around hrs rrght end 19 yards for a td Wlth Benjammo and Loomer dorng the ball carry1ng they took the ball up to the two vard stripe where McDermott bucked over After Rockland failed to gain the Blue Dev1ls scored agam when Angie Dangola crashed off tackle for the fourth touchdown Midway in the final heat Bllly Seaverns guard realized a linesman s dream as he plucked a Rockland pass out of the a1r and zoomed 45 yards for a td to end the rout STOUGHTON 34 STETSON 6 Randolph and Stoughton two of schooldom s most bitter rrvals were down for thelr annual dog fight This game was supposed to be the best on the South Shore Stoughton handed the Blue Devils their worst defmt in two years 54 to 6 There were more penalties tn this game fa total of 775 ytrds to be exact: than all of the games put together Stoughton had terrific power and Stetson could do nothing to stop xt IS they scored w1thout wlll The only scormg for the Blue Dev1ls came with five minutes re malmng to play George Ztrnglebel going over from the one on a reverse Injuries were many as Bobby Tierney lost a couple of teeth whrch were found around the field Angie Dangoxa was easily the outstandlng player for the Blue Devils The ame ended rn a HOC wlth polrce men holding off fights tmong the players ml spectrtors CATHEDRAL 20 STETSON 7 The Blue Dev1ls went down to their third defeat of the season as Cathedral swamped them 20 to 7 Benjamlno and Loomer sat th1s game cut with injuries Cathedral scored hrst as therr fullback bucked over from the five XVrth lrttle time remaining in the half Angle Dangola cl1 maxed a 65 yard march when he scooted over from the tne yard stripe Danfvora passed to Smith for the extra pomt and led tt the half 7 to 6 The second half came and the Blue Devrls looked pltlful as Crthedral scored on ome flule touchdowns and the Blu Devils went down to defeat C tthedral went away wlth an easy vrctorv MIDDLEBORO 7 STETSON 0 Stetson couldnt win this one lf they had a dozen teams The jlnx worked rn reverse for Mlddleboro as they copped tts first wln over the Blue Dev1ls since 1944 nt was a heartbreaking defeat A devil td was called when a holdnng pen tlty was detected Another touchdown went out the wrndow as McDermott bucked over but clipping was ctlled Late rn the game the fight ing Blue Devrls staged a gallant 55 ylrd drnve which reached Mlddleboros 18 time ran out ind that ended th tt so the Blue Dev1ls couldn t caoxtllrze Frtnkle McDermott turned ln his best perform rnce plckrng up a total of 74 vards whlle Don McPherson and Bobby Tierney sparkled in the lme HINGHAM 19 STETSON 6 The Blue Dev1ls played farewell to their last game of the season thelr fourth defeat ln a row and the fifth all year Hmgham scored ln the first quarter and twice in the thxrd stanza Angle Dangola raced 78 yards but stepped out of bounds on the 75 fso the ref satdj Bobby Tierney was outstanding at guard rn h1s final high school game despite a pamful htp in jury Ozzie Benjamxno Frank Corrigan Don McPherson Angle Dangora Bobby Tierney Gardy Sm th and Glg Marconl and Eddie Hoeg played their last glme of the year for The Blue and Whlte It was a dlsappolntlng season for the Zap men wrth a 4 and 5 rec ord They had lost all their SPIIII and fight it seemed after the Stoughton game They re cerved their share of bad luck throughout the season and now the Blue and Whlte look for ward to a better and more prosperous season to come Butch Dangola v - ' -4 . . . . .
