XYQQXQ5, Nh KX A sax, ,fx COACH EHIND every success their lies 'in inspiration. a nucleus for achievement and accom- plishment. To a football team or a basketball team. it is the coach giving to the boys invaluable instruction and knowledge of the game and how to play it. Coach joseph .. Zapustus of our High School came to us in the year 1943 when sports at Stetson was at its lovnest mark in years. Starting with a group of entirely green boys and by patient handling and hard work that extended over '1 three year span gave to Stetson perhaps the best season of sports accomplishment in the schools history. During the season of 1945-46 he piloted the grid squad through a nine game slate undefeated to the Class D co-championship, and lead the court five to the boards of the Boston Garden in the Eastern Massachusetts Basketball Tourney. Coach Zapustus graduated from the Unix ersity of Fordham, where he played quar' terback and from which college he was tvs ice chosen as All-American in the year 1933. Entering into pro-football, he played with the old Boston Shamrocks from whence he signed to the New York Giants. Professional baseball too, was not strange to our versatile coach, having been in the ranks of Connie Macks Athletics for a num- ber of years. Coach joe started his coaching career at Cliffside High in New ersey, then piloted Mission High in Boston, and after successful seasons at both schools, arrived at Stetson in 1943 to take over the coaching duties. The result of his work is evident. All in our town know the coach as a wonderful man and a splendid coach, but it is the boys who have played under him who really get the full advantage of his sterling character, jovial disposition and boundless knowledge of the game and how to win it.
