I 9 4 6 z 6 Page Thlrty three QfQfQAfCf if fbtx. xi A VISIT TO NEW YORK CITY AIL the conquermg heroes' Perhaps you have not1ced certam lads of thas alma mater struttmg around lake proud peacocks lately Please pardonne for at IS excuseable There are three 139 reasons for thas sudden burst of haughtaness ily The fact that the boys brought glory and fame to our dear school C21 The fact that they actually had the1r pro fales an the publac press and the thard and most amportant reason the fact that they have yust completed a four day vrsrt to the metropolas of New York Cary Cexpenses Paid, The Football Eleven as everyone knows slugged tts way to a Co Champronshtp crown of Eastern Mass and the Basketball Fave gave forth w1th some very classy basketball to wan a berth an the Boston Garden Tech Tourna ment It was due to these two teams that Randolph actually made the Sport headlanes an many papers and lf was due to these two teams that generous Randolph fans dug deep to contrtbute dollars for thas well earned trlp The tr1p was made by 78 boys the pr1nc1pal has wafe and son and our coach and has wlfe Mr Grlgan assembled the mob on Frad ay Apral 17 and tssued tnstructaons Brmg ex tra sharts pants socks tooth brush etc and curfew was to be twelve madnaght On Monday mornlng all the boys got up braght and early to catch the eleven o clock tram and with the exceptaon of a few lag gets everyone was on trme At 5 o clock an the afternoon following a gruelllng tram rade we pulled mto Grand Central Statron and were promptlv escorted to the Hotel Lmcoln by carefree cab drtvers After gettmg settled an our rooms I a an a roomy whach were scattered throughout the 77 story burldrng we met at the Hotel Lobby Mr Gllgan drew forth has wallet and revealed a roll of greenbacks H dashed out two and one half to each athlete for eats and a show Tuesday mornlng every one left has respectne room at half past exght and agam we as embled an the lobby We were dlrected tm the Hotel Cafeteraa and there we devoured our breakfasts We were grven our freedom for about two hours and at the completxon of thts tame were mstructefl to get ready for our an tacapated vasrt to the Statue of Laberty Led by our elders we hopped a subway to New York Harbor and from there took a ferry that Loes to the famous statue Wfhen we reached land once more Mr Grlgan handed us a dollar and a half per person for lunch and told us to shove off for the afternoon and return to the Lmcoln at sax When the coach and Mr G11 gan entered the lobby they were not surprased to ftnd many of us coolmg our feet off when the afternoon was over We swarmed around hlm lake a pack of hungry wolves and received our supper fees gracrously We were also grv en tackets to the clrcus an the Madason Square Garden and by twelve oclock madnlght we had spent our farst full day ID New York Clty Wednesday mornlng we awoke at eaght tharty agaan and prepared to spend our most lnterestrng day an the c1ty Again we sleepxly met at the lobby and agaln Mr Grlgan flashed that famalaar bankroll and handed us 10 bats for our mornang meal At ten we all left the hotel 1n a group to tour the RCA Bualdang After thas we spent the afternoon at the Polo Grounds watchxng the New York Grants de feat the Phaladelphla Phals 5 2 From the Polo Grounds we took the elevated to 42nd street walked about one fourth of a mrle through Tames Square and were back at the Hotel Lincoln at fave thrrty After a brlef rest an our rooms we squeezed 1nto the elevator and once more greeted our elders an the lobby and were handed our usual me altame sum of money Wlpmg the mustard from 47nd street took the elevated to the Plane rartum Thxs completed our Wednesday and by eleven thlrty we were sound asleep Astde from eattng our breakfast shoppang for ouven1rs and saghtseenng by ourselves Thursday morn we spent a good part of the mornmg packmg our sultcases and browslng ound At one oclock an the afternoon our traxr lef New York Cnty and pulled Into good old Boston and home at fave oclock Everyone had a swell trme and we all ap precxate the generous contrrbuttons by the peo ple of Randolph Frank Dockendorff 16 WE SPEAK ONLY THE TRUTH xpclru OMB home dear Mr Crlmmms The man wrth the bralns and the ergeants trrmmmgs A few pounds less but wath the old come hather That kept all the gurls an a fraghtful drther We rc glad you re back an the Scaence classes Wlth wtsdom to share wath the lads and lasses We mls ed you terribly wh1le you were away So the day you returned was our real V J Day Class of 46 6 . s X QfQf:f3gfQ,fef 1' 5 ' A-fp Q 1 T 1 .
