Page Thirty I 9 4 6 bfivixfx ww N QQ. ivawxffvfbfavsv essex secretaries in the now successfully gained fight rgainst cancer Such good news pleased us immen ely but better was to follow Ruth V in Cott Arnold stated had inherited a fortune and was now social head of the Van Cort aristocracy We were very impressed by this and immediately departed to look her up VU e found her in the midst of wealth and glory but she was still the same swell kid She greeted us warmly and made us at home While we dined datntly on cake and tea she told us that Mary Cotter and Florence Sass had established a well known beauty salon at the Metropolitis Dolores Tardenico was furthering her fathers agent and Lorraine LoSc1uto after 1 brief sci entific career had settled down to married life just then Katherine Harrington was ushered in She was very excited over a piece of news paper she was waving Barbara opened it and there on the front page was a picture of Dori Teece Beneath it read RANDOLPH GIRL WINS TITLE OF WORLD CHAMPION OF SPEED TYPING I also noticed that it was wrrtten by Katherine and when I asked her where she worked she told me she was a re porter on the Daily Mann We spent another hour just talking then we bade them goodbye and returned to our suite Both of us were rather wearv from the days excitement so we decided to just drive around for the evening A large sign outside of MOTHER HUBBARDS CUBBARD attracted our attention It read Come in and Try Our Super Special Stewart Spaghetti Barbara and I just couldnt resist the delicious scent that drifted frcm the open window so we parked the ctr ind entered 'Ihe dish wis so good that we asked to sec the chef in order to con gratulate him on the excellence of his food Imagine cur surprise to see Kenny Stewart poring over a large kettle of spaghetti H was very busy so we just told h1m how much we enjoyed his food and left Barbara glanced at her wrist watch and saw that we only had five minutes to get back to the radio station to broadcast this to you so we started off at a great pace Now Barbara usually is a careful driver but as I said we were in a dreadful hurry so we just flew by the red lights I cop We slowed down md the officer drew up with 1 frown He prepared to give us 1 ticket but when he saw who it was he laughed And no wonder it was Frank Dockendorff My eyes nearly bulged out of my head I stared so hard but he convinced us that every thing was on the up and up and just to show us there were no hard feelings he escorted us to the radio station So everyone if we sound a little breathless Im sure youll understand how rushed we have been ust the same we both think its swell the way our class turned out and we want everyone to know how proud we are of him And now I think we better sign off until ten years from now and then we can see if this is true joan Doherty 46 Barbara Hastings 46 cv-O x Qffyio Q- , A sc X A ' A . l 9 4 6 Page Twenty nrne e VX Qys' Norrrs at the game and happened on the sub ject of our hrgh school days I asked her rf she ever drd anythrng about the veterrnarran hosprtal she once mentroned and she told me wrth prrde that she now owned an ultra mod ern glass structure on Long Drrve the largest anrmal rnfrrmary on the East Coast She also sard that Mary Porter had become chref sur geon rn the hosprtal founded by Arthur Hashem rn the old hrgh school burldrng form erly Stetson Prrscrlla Blanchard ean Wood ford and Florence Rrnaldr were dorng a splen drd job rn nursrng Roberta Frsher and Stanley Ferrrs were gym rnstructors and Stetson s name as far as sports were concerned was rrght on top I tucked all thrs rnformatron rnto my head and rushed back to the hotel rn a cab owned by George Muerrn oan came rn a short trme later and had qurte a brt of good news Whrle Barbara was attendrng a basketball game I was attendrng a banquet It was an annual affarr grven by the Bankers Assocratron and Maureen Gaynor who was unrt head of the busrness machrnes presented me wrth a handsome corsage strarght from Drrnkwaters Nurserres I also ran rnto Irene Krley who was the chref typrst and Helen Donovan ef frcrent secretary to the presrdent Naturally we had a lot of thrngs to drscuss and the mam thrng of rnterest were our classmates Maureen gave me two trckets to the Grand World Farr featurrng plastrcs and then followed me home to get the money Well Barbara pard the grrl and the trckets were ours The next day we went to the farr Ah what a day' The trcket grrl turned out to be my old pal Mary McI.aughl1n George Greer was cus todran of the one man plastrc band and Lucrlle Haskrns was secretary of affarrs that vnent on durrng the farr Lucrlle escorted us around and gave us a lot of rnsrde news She heard that Elrzabeth Leback and ean Cullen had founded a magnrfrcent school for those chrl dren after the vrar of 1946 Shrrley Colburn was rn the plastrc mrllrnery busrness and Bar brra Forsy the owned a toy shop rn New York We were overroyed to hear of the good luck cf our frrends and to show our apprecratron me let Lucrlle take us to lunch at MaraS The name struck a drstant chord rn my mem ory so I asked the head warter to take me to the manager Sure enough rt was our old classmate now a prosperous taxpayer He told me hrs best wartresses were the Papp Twrns and hrs chef was none other than jrmmy Wrl son After our me 11 we went back to the hotel In the lobby there were several brlls rn a show case rdvertrsrng specral entertarnments of the nrght Mrrron Wades name was there as takrng part rn the Ballet Russe the top toe dancer of the year We were later to frnd out that Betty accompanred her srster on all her engagements and more or less took care of her wardrobe That nrght we watched the performance wrth the utmost pleasure When the lrghts went on agarn we were jorned by Loretta Morgan and Barbara DeMott who hap pened to hear of our return and decrded to look us up When I polrtely rnqurred what they were dorng they replred they had a Span rsh Tea Room rn Florrda and at the present trme were travelrng north for the summer Barbara told us that Mabel Petrpas was a fam ous actress havrng recerved an offer from the Paramount Studros upon her graduatron We drank a toast to Mabel and retrred for the nrght fallrng blrssfully to sleep on a Brllrng ham mattress I was awakened rn the wee hours of the new day by the telephone My anger turned to pleasure when I recognrzed the vorce of an old classmate Lorrarne Krley She sard she had been tryrng to get rn touch vxrth us ever srnce our return rn order to rnvrte us to a grrls soft ball game at her Stadrum that afternoon I thanked her for the rnvrtatron and rnqurred as to how she was She sard she was dorng frne and also rnformed me that Elrzabeth Knrghts was now a vxell known yournalrst I was glad to hear thrs and told her I would see her later What a surprrse awarted us at the stadrum We saw the star prtcher was Erleen Sullrvan and Elrzabeth Kelly and Alrce Trerney were both players on the team We cheered ourselves hoarse and after we won we then departed ust at thrs rdentrcal moment we were harled by jane Powers and Dolly Welch socretys leadrng debs Dolly rnformed us that they often attended the opera and that very nrght Corrrne Sw allow was to make her debut They also gave us drrectrons on how to get to Arnold Makaras gas statron vuhrch was a mrle down the road Arnold drdnt recognrze us at frrst but one of hrs customers drd Thrs was luck rndeed ack Warner a travelrng sales man who would have guessed?
