TO THE GRADUATES OF STERN COLLEGE: I offer you my warmest felicitations upon your graduation from Stern College for Women. These past four years have been exceedingly exciting ones in the history of Stern College, and certainly in your own lives. Since you came in as Freshmen, you have been part of a series of educational experiments and curricular innovations that have left the College stronger and more self-confident. With- out your avid but critical participation, these experiments could never have succeeded, and the college administration and faculty would never have learned how to assess the experience properly. It is my hope that this openness, this pioneering quality, will be one of Yeshiva University ' s major contributions to you the graduating Seniors of Stern College. In a time of diffidence, self-doubt, and insecurity, may you have the wisdom and fortitude to take bold steps in life, matching courage to aspiration, and achieving satisfying success in your personal, family, and communal lives. May the Torah ideals and cultural values you learned here at Stern be a source of strength and inspiration to you as you make your creative contribu- tions to the advancement for Judaism, the welfare of Israel, and the progress of all humanity.

MESSAGE FOR KOCHAVIAH FROM MR. MAX STERN It is with great pleasure that I extend warmest greetings to the 1981 graduates of Stern College for Women I consider it most fitting that you base this year ' s Kochaviah on the theme Women of the 80s. For as the opportunities and challenges of the American Jewish woman have grown, Stern College has continued to enrich its programs so that graduates may carry on their vital role with ever greater distinction In our tradition the woman has been youth ' s first teacher, introducing them to the vast treasures of Jewish culture. Hers has been the responsibility of imbuing the home with the spirit of Godliness that is the sole foundation for the truly moral life. With the coming of modern times — particularly in today ' s United States — a new dimension has been added to the life of the Jewish woman. Now she could play a vital role in the general community, utilizing her special insights in an ever-widening area of activities. Law, medicine, business, the physical sciences — these and many other fields offer her untold opportunities for personal fulfillment and profes- sional advancement. This development points up the increasing need for the special kind of education you are now familiar with — a unique harmonizing of the Judaic heritage and the liberal arts and sciences. May you continue to carry on the traditions of Torah even as you go forward to meet the challenges of career, home, and community service. I offer my very best wishes for the future
