Raiders Start District With a Loss

Sterling Bows to Colts Sterling prepared for a hard and furious battle on the night that we played one of our neighboring oppo- nents, the Worthing Colts. Neither of the two teams totally dominated the field that night as both teams put on a wild show. Sterling did, however, dominate the excitement as two scoring runs were called back. The Raider defense had their best showing of the year against a tough Worthing offense. Although we were not victorious in our efforts, we did play a great football game. The final score was Worthing 14 and Sterling 6. 181

Raiders Tame the Wildcats In tlifir sfcond {i;aiiif of district play, the Raiders met the Wheatley Wildcats in a battle that the Raiders needed to win in order to keep their race alive for the district champion- ship. Sterling ' s defense held the Wildcats to six points in one of the Raiders ' s best defensive efforts of the year. Sterling ' s offense staged their best showing of the season up to that point as t h e v scored three touchdowns. The final score was Wheatley 6 and Sterling 20. The Raiders Clash With Brahmas The Raiders advanced to their third game of district play with a 1-1 district record. This game with the Brahmas of Furr High School was a must win for the Raiders in order to keep alive in the race toward the district cham- pionship. The game turned out to be a lurious ballli ' as both offenses wen- operating in full force. Sterling scored four touchdowns and had three sc(»r- ing passes called back. However, the Rrahmas proved to be one step ahead. The final score of the ganie was Kurr 39 and Sterling 33. 183
