The team's punting prowess was good this year, but their passing proved mediocre . . . Marschang's kicking ability frequently offset our opponent's weight . . . This year's team has the distinction of being the only S. H. S. squad ever to suffer a defeat at the hands of Community . . . As usual it was a close contest. Thanksgiving day brought lots of mud but also victory . . . There were fewer varsity in- juries this year than there were last year . . . '38 team promises to be light but very fast . . . oofgafifi Vernon Frye, for two years first string end on the football team, has distinguished himself by his excellent scoring ability and his capable defense work . . . Sterling High loses an excellent all around player when he gradu- ates this spring. With three letters and the honor of sharing the captaincy of the nineteen thirty-seven foot- ball team to his credit, Herbert Marschang has proved his worth as a hack who is not afraid to find an opening in the line and then smash his way through it. Harlan came to us this year from another school, but his advantage of weight and his unusual swiftness won him his varsity letter . . . Nelson will not be back next year. Bob Thomas, another end on the varsity lineup, has been up among the leaders for the last two years .... Two letters have been earned by him. A good tackle and an all around right guy, Don Allen has received two letters for his services to his team. john Powell, flashy quarter- back, has made up for his di- minutiveness by his speed and consistent drive .... Johnny graduates this year with one varsity letter to his credit. The mainstay of the team, Harold Reed, was converted into a center this year .... For two years he has filled up the gaps in the line with his hard hitting and straight diving. 28
