This year's team has the distinction of being the only S. H. S. squad ever to suffer a defeat at the hands of Community . . . As usual it was a close contest. Thanksgiving day brought lots of mud but also victory . . . There were fewer varsity in- juries this year than there were last year . . . '38 team promises to be light but very fast . . . Reitzel and Frey were chosen as co-captains . . . The line will he strong . . . more backs will be developed. 26

3 ' QL has ,iff F, , , 4.-f 2 'V' 1' oofgaff With an abundance of line material and a lack of backs, Coach Scheid wielded a football team for nineteen thirty-seven that was above average standards . . . Team undoubtedly got the bad breaks, for Marschang was the only backfield man who returned this year . . . games lost on slim margin. In spite of these handicaps the Sterling gridsters got second place in the North Central Conference . . . In only one game, with DeKalb, was Sterling held scoreless . . . S. H. S. gained thirteen first downs in this game . . . DeKalb, only two. Sterling played its first night game at the Morrison gridiron . . . With a slippery field Sterling came through with only a tie to its credit. Rochelle game was a comedy of fumbles . . . Rochelle obliged more than once but Sterling proved the politer team of the two . . . we had a few more fumbles . . . we lost, 12-T. Dixon provided us with the real heartbrealcer . . . Score was six to nothing in our favor . . However Dixon scored a last minute touchdown, giving us only a tie. 25
