Spring at SHS Brings Keen Competition, r Fourteen literary contestants represent SHS in district competition - Mike Cedars, Kermit Northcutt and Clay Knapp in Number Sense, Jackie Quarles and Marion Ferguson in Slide Rulcg Wayne Sharp in Science, Vicki Lowry, tfli it Melody Hook, Marilyn McA1ister, Jerry Smith gg and Betty Jackson in Typing, and Cyd Baum- gardner and Cheryl Ross in Spelling. Of these Mike Cedars places first in Number Sense and sf Jackie Quarles second in Slide Rule to ad- S vance to regional competition. Pictures on opposite page show happy SHS Stage Band contestants bringing home Texas Tech contest trophies, Steve Huey giving concluding remarks at the Employer-Appreci- ation Banquet and representative scenes from the closely-contested Sadie Hawkins Tourney. Mr. Crabtree coaches regional number sense and slide rule contestants, Mike Cedars and Jackie Quarles. 7 5 Q7 The Jacket Camera tells it like it isi' on April 4 at the Friday afternoon practice for the Lions Club Queen Contest. Then adding icing to the cake of the FUN-D Program following the delicious chicken barbecue, eighteen SHS seniors fCan they possibly be the same girls?J are presented as candidates for the Lions Queen title. Judges choose Debra Dixon as first runner-up. Outgoing Queen Rita Mayo then presents the crown to Debbie Ballow, 1969 Lions Club Queen.
