ALIVE and ACTIVE My The entire student body, as well as all of the faculty and administration at SHS, have a large stake in the continued progress of Stephenville High School. Whether banding to- gether to strengthen the comprehensive program of education needed to achieve our goals or taking time out to find fun and relaxation in the various activities available at SHS, each of us shares a glowing pride in the JACKET's fine record of accomplishments and renews our individual efforts to meet today's challenge. As Jackets progress with initiative and ability so do the business men and women of the community abound in versatile talents and services. These Jacket sup- porters are motivated with the American spirit of free enterprise and a strong sense of fair play. Representing SHS People, ALERT, ALIVE and ACTIVE is the school seal, designed by Judi Houston, Class of '68, in a Student Council-sponsored contest and approved by our Board of Education in an early summer meeting. The newly adopted seal of Stephenville High School, cir- cular in shape, is symbolic of continuous progression. The torch of learning in the center is a source of enlightenment and guidance. Resembling the letters 'gSHS,', the flame represents the burning desire to advance and achieve. The conical shape of the torch is suggestive of a cornucopia containing an overflowing supply of enthusiasm - enthusiasm which both teachers and students possess in their quest for knowledge and their participation in extra-curricular activities. The Yellow Jacket on the cone stands for all teams, athletic and scholastic, representing Stephenville High School. The blocks above the cone represent the varied courses of study - the building blocks of a well-rounded education. The words 'Stephenville High School appear around the top of the seal with the Latin phrase Hin Omnia Paratusf' meaning Ready For All around the bottom. The colors of the seal are blue, gold, and white. Blue, one of the traditional school colors, symbolizes loyalty and the great beyond ftruth and knowledge not learnedj. Gold, another school color, implies malleability in that education shapes the minds and the characters of youth. Gold has a rust-free characteristic, and knowledge helps eliminate cor- rupting prejudices, tarnished traits of character, and the tendency to remain at rest mentally. It represents the wealth received from being educated and is indicative of the excellent opportunity offered to every student - a chance to expand his mind, thus increasing his capabilities. White, a symbol of beneficence, CEducation is beneficial to societyj, represents the purity of truth.
