Area seniors attend the TCU Career Day where they hear Congressman Jim Wright speak on the value of education. SHS'ers chat with Mr. Wright and attend lectures. At home, underclassmen sample career ideas from visiting consultants. 1, f, wwf Lggrw., SHS holds Open House'to Welcome parents and friends and to acquaint them with both academic and extra-curricular programming. VOE state delegates are Gwen Sharp, Vivian Lee, Mary Leatherwood, Carolyn Davis, and Kay Massingill. Vivian and Gwen enter scrapbooks in Chapter of the Year and Activities Manual contests placing second and sixth. QV historian, Karen Ware, accepts the first place plaque for SHS at the TALA con- vention in McAllen.

I SPRING HIGHLIGHTS . . . SHS enters twelve students in district UIL literary competition. Those participating are Martha Adams, Norma Ferguson, Ross Wolfe, Beth Black, Sue Cranford, Jerry Rankin, Stanley Carpenter, Steve Meers, Mike Cedars, and Barbara Williams. SHS scores a record 132 points and is second in the meet. Ross, Beth, Sue, Stanley, Mike, and Barbara also compete at regional where Mike is first in his division. He then goes to Austin and places fifth in the State Number Sense Contest. Coach Gus's cinderfellas win four trophies for SHS. ii? Joyce Dove, Mike Cranford, Suzan Smith, and John Pigott are SHS's first delegates to a It's All in a day's work for student I NHS state convention. They find Pemberton High School very interesting! teacher Ralph Ammons. 5 May, 1968, marks the end of a forty-two year teaching career in Stephenville Schools for Miss Gayle Russell. Her dedication and I devotion to duty has turned out thousands at , ,Eid of students well versed in history and gov- QW' ernment. Some of the highlights of her tenure at SHS have been organizing Stephen- Ville7S CTA and acting as its first president, co-sponsoring the Student Participation Committee Cnow known as Student Councilj for fourteen years, and reviving the high school annual by sponsoring the SPC publi- cation of the first Yellow Jacket in 1937. In a farewell note to the faculty Miss Russell says, 'gl leave my heart in Stephenville High Schoolf' 2 21
