Graduation .... Cherished dreams and fulfilled hopes are completed on this occasion. The seniors have practiced sit- ting, walking, and standing. They have learned to have perfect control of Their outward appearance. But for their emotions at this moment no one has prepared them. No one has told them that in this final hour they must leave behind them high school cares and bring to a close every precious, happy, fun-filled hour. No one has told them that they must struggle to control their feelings, thoughts, and memories. That they must force back tears at this last meeting with their classmates. They are no longer a firm, united class, but sep- arate, alone individuals. As they march off the stage they close a door, the door of adolescence, and open the door of maturity. 23

lui 3 Jil 5 ieaclzerd f or 105 'f '! 1 l 1 1 1 t l it is 5 i l l i When thirty-one teachers and administrators with a combined 457 years of experience ioin more than 500 students in a completely new building with all new furniture, the pur- pose of education is sure to be fulfilled. Academic requirements and scholastic stand- ing at Stephenville High School are outstand- ingly high and rigidly adhered to. A mem- ber of the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and College of which our own Super- intendent Mr. J. C. Helm, Jr., is chairman of the Fort Worth District, the high school con- stantly revises its curriculum to meet today's challenge of better graduates. Minimum requirements for graduation are seventeen credits, including four in English, two in math, two in laboratory sciences, and an increase from two to three credits in social science, one credit in physical education and five electives. Upon entering the ninth grade, students with the help of counsellors, plan their four-year program. This plan may, of course, be re- vised as the student progresses. The many improvements made on the campus this year raised the cost of operation to eighteen cents an hour per student. Latin was added to the foreign language depart- ment this year. Three classes of Chemistry were conducted for the first time. Pre- registration figures for the 1960-61 school year show the need for two Algebra ll classes and there is also an increased demand for Spanish. Of the 91 Seniors graduating this year, more than in any other class in history had four years in math. Next year's Senior Class will be the largest in history. As Juniors they number more than 150. Sophomores number 128, and Freshmen number 142. 25
