meetmgs On January 31 the Commerclal Club spon sored a Lone Pme Mountameer program xn the audltorlum Our share of the proceeds helped a great deal At present there are twenty fou1 members fifteen boys took thelr oanjos along Wlth them and a gland tlme was had by all Tarly 1n OClObG1 the old members held fi meetmg to draw up a program of work for the yeax It was deelded to do this by means of commnttees The boys agreed also at thxs meet mg to haxe a workable FFA llbrary thls year and Louls Glow er was chosen llbrarlan Each boy was to brmg 111 one or two books for the llbrary and then the other boys eould borrow these dut mg the year Late 1n October We sponsored a Halloween Soclal Tms was a grand succe s Everyone had a good tlme and oxer thlrty dol lars was cleared Haung earned some mol ey Ne proceeded to buy some of the thmgs we haxe long needed such as an FFA banner serap book new man uals etc At the present we haxe well equplped chapter Our annual FFA banquet was held 1n the Apple .ludgmg at Lew xston Southern D1st11et Contest at New Castle held ln May and the st te Contest wmch wtll be held at the Unlxerslty of Mame the last ot June We sent two delegates to represent us at the Norway FFA banquet We were muted to attend banquets at WlltOYl Can or Ducktleld and Fryeburg We are lookmg forward to our annual four day Dshmg trlp up to the Blrches At th1s exert we take ten1s and our tood and have a grand tlme eatmg flshmg and boatmg on the plctur esque Rangeley Lakes We feel It an honor to mentlon the fine work and success that a team of fue boys made at the LJIIIVQFSIIY of Mame last June ln the State Contest The boys made a fine showlng for the school and club by commg up 1n thlrd place out of forty elght schools The team Included Berton Emery Ronald Faster G1rard Coulombe Wallace Austm Loux Gloxer and were accompanled by the adxxsor Mr Brown DEBATING Th1s year the Debatlng team of S H S has progressed extremely well They have taken part m many debates and have won 70A of all then' praetlee debates wlth all teams pHI'tlC1pHllI'lg The afflrmatne team Marwood Clement and Dean XVOOCENVEIIQ has been undeteated for two years The negatlxe team Audrey McLean and Wayne Sweatt won some of the1r debates also There haxe been practlce tournaments wlth Edward Llttle South Portland Edward Llttle South Portland and Colebrook N H In the Bates League Debates the afhrmatxve team won 3 0 wh1le the negat1ve team was defeated 3 O There have been mter class teams this year wnth Marw ood Clement eoachmg the sophomores and Mr Thomas eoachmg the Jumors The soph omores won both of then debates The debatmg te tm has won much esteem ln S H S and let us hope that lt w1ll contmue as successfully as lt has d'Jne 1n the past BOYS R CLUB The Boys R Club engaged 1n a xery favoxa ble school year during 1940 and 1941 Two ll'lltlatlOI'lS were held and a total of 25 new mem bers were admltted to the club The club ofln cers ale as follows Norman Rxchards
