Dr. Brown, head of the Division of Health Education states lhat the general health of the student body at Stephens College is far above the average of many colleges because of the rigid physical examinations it is necessary to pass in order to meet entrance requirements, tl1e atten- tion given to regular food esse11t.ial to growth, special diet tables for those who 11eed particular care, and an expanded program for proper relaxation and rest. The Health Center believes that the latter is more important than anything else done on a college campus. The Health Service tries constantly to build up a defense against quackery, superstitious, and nostrumsg it desires to place in the hands of every girl the equipment in the health area necessary to meet the needs of her future home and community life. The staff also tries to make each student visit to the Health Center not only an occasion for medical aid, but also an experience in health education. Courses in Physical Education emphasize the formation of basic skills in golf, tennis, riding, swimming, and other sports which will provide an answer to the recreational needs of Stephens girls both during their college experience and after graduation. Miss Wilma Haynes, director of the state Physical Fitness program and head of the physical education staff, believes that every girl, in order to live a full, well- balanced life, must become proficient in one or more of these games and sports. m E ji, The Council of Hall Counselors, headed by Miss Grace Curtis of Senior Hall, and sponsored. by Dean Weldon P. Shofstall, is the organization through which the Work of the counselors and their assistants is coordi- nated. It is because they are an important part of the guidance staff that the hall counselors work with Dean Shofstall, head of the guidance program. Each residence hall counselor is Dean of Women in her own hall. Through hall meetings and house council, the residence hall counselors are responsible for group organization and instruction as well as in- dividual guidance. The efforts of counselors to obtain a Well-knit, out-of-class guidance program are carried out 'through the weekly meetings of the Council with Dean Shofstall and t.l1e student meetings of hall presidents in Adminis- trative Council. The counselors also work closely with the Student Health Division, the Extra-Class Division and the various specialized services on campus, such as the clinics, advisers, and admissions counselors. ,. . -5 1 Y J., ' 1 Kg'-. v . .
