if .M 1 vi ' ati Hfmvm' S. NVA1,'1'En Harvey S. Walter, Director of Admissions, heads the group of sixteen men who counsel prospective Stephens students in the girls' own homes. These men, who cover the forty-eight states, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Canada, promote the interests of the College and main- tain a harmonious contact between the College and the families of the students. Because of the rapid growth of the College, the need of such a service has been felt both by parents of students and by the administration. Admissions counselors are therefore carefully selected for their interest and experience in the problems of education. The individual guidance of the student and the evaluation of her proposed course, both for vocational training and for transfer to other colleges and universities, are typical problems skillfully handled by the Stephens College field men. The original staff for the year 1941-42 numbered eighteen. Robert T. Harrell, who was inducted by the army, and Robert D. Amaden have left. The following sixteen men are carrying on the admissions work in the indicated territories: William A. Baker, Ohio and West Pennsylvania, George W. Bal tzer, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Southern Indiana, Robert Bird, the Southwest, L. W. Bowman, lllinois, except Chicago, Clum Bucher, Missouri and Kansas, William David Carr, North Caro- line, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington, D. C., Delaware, Maryland and Eastern Pennsylvania, Raymond Dooley, Eastern New York, New Jersey and New England, Roy T. Gallemore, Southern states, Machin Gardner, the North- west, including Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Northern California, J. Scott Hemry, Chicago area and Western New York, Lowell Hildebrand, North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin, John B. Kyd, Okla- homa, Louisiana and Arkansas, Lynn A. Phillips, Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska, Vernon M. VVilliams, Texas, Harvey S. Walter, Florida. Prior to the war, Mr. Bird went to Hawaii and Mr. Walter traveled in Puerto Rico and Cuba. Mr. Gardner covered British Colombia and Mr. Dooley went to Eastern Canada. South Amer- ica and Mexico were contacted through corre- spondence. Page 22
