VIRGINIAY SIMON In order that every Stephens girl may learn to appreciate the best in art, literature and music, books and other library facilities must be made a part of her environment. For this purpose, there are libraries in twenty-seven of the twenty-nine buildings on campus. The Personal Library plan, which enables each student to borrow eight books which she may keep in her room 'throughout the year has helped to make thoughtful reading an ever 1nore important part of scholastic life at Stephens. The plan was used by more girls this year than ever before. Page 19

Through magazines, feature articles, in newspapers, radio broadcasts and occasional movies, Stephens' progressive ideas are conveyed to educators and prospective students. Under the direction of Mr. Barry Holloway, head of the division, Miss Finlay handles radio publicity and transportation, which includes the transference of girls from their homes to the College and back again. Miss Bartlett has charge of all newspaper and magazine work, while Miss Jeri Boyes serves in the dual position of feature writer and picture editor. Mr. Mangan does staff photography for all publicity pictures and shots for the Stephens Standard, the campus magazine. The Division of Public Relations brings to Stephens outstanding writers in the newspaper and magazine LoN Azvncic Miss Juni BOYES 'f if P iiin 'ii field, this enables these guests to learn about the College and give advice to students interested in the different phases of journalism. Wheii a Writer comes to the campus, he comes to learn what Stephens is doing, and is entertained by the Board of Publications. Thus the girls themselves describe what the College is accomplish- ing. Mr. Holloway states that his Division never tells a writer what to say. The Public Relations staff answers hundreds of inquiries from newspapers concerning the activities of students from their local towns. It also corresponds regularly with nearly 700 newspaper writers, magazine writers, newsreel and radio men, concerning current activities functioning at the College. Featured this year in publications from coast to coast were articles on the Forum, The American Woman and Her Re- sponsibilities, the Physical Fitness program spon- sored by the Physical Education Department, and the defense classes organized for the Red Cross and other defense activities.
