Keith Thacker, Alto Sophomore, had 120 yards on nine carries for one touchdown. Floyd Dixon, Beaumont junior, caught five passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns as the SFA of- fense rolled up 486 yards against the Panthers, while the SFA defense held the Panthers to 196 yards. Quarterback Todd Whitten enjoyed a good game, completing nine of 14 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Playing in the first ever Gulf Star Con- ference game, the Jacks suffered nine turnovers and lost 20-7 to the Sam Houston State University Bearkats. Despite the turnovers, the SFA defense played well. I thought our defense played well despite being put into some difficult situations, Coach Jim Hess said. SFA ' s lone touchdown came on a 45- yard pass from Todd Whitten to James Noble in the third quarter.
