Sylvans Take Top Honors : A Sylvans took top honors at the twentieth annual Asso- ciation of Southern Forestry Clubs (ASCF) Conclave held April 14-16. 1977. The foresters scored a total of 223.25 points in technical and field events, putting them in first place over 12 other schools entered. In addition to receiving a trophy, the club was presented a chain saw donated by Floyd Tillis. Events held during the conclave included log rolling, speed chopping, chain throwing, wood technology, photogrametry, wildlife, compass and pacing, limber estimating and cross cut- ting. Approximately 500 foresters from universities throughout the southern forest region attended the conclave. Dr. Ray Hicks, director of research, served as special adviser for the conclave. Dr. David Lenhart, assistant to the Dean of Forestry, was Sylvan club sponsor.

State Fair More than 300,000 people attended the 1977 Texas State Fair in Dallas. Among the crowd were 20 SFA students on a trip sponsored by the UC Recreation Committee. Some of the attractions were the Great Food Roundup, the Midway roller coaster — the larg- est in the South, the traditional merry-go-round with its 66 hand-carved horses, and the spectacular ivestock show and auction. 13
