11,293 Enroll After all the hassles, confusion and tears, registration for the fall semester ended with a record enrollment of 11,293 students. This was an increase of four per cent over last year. Statistics after the twelfth class day revealed that there were more 18-year-olds than any other single age group, men slightly outnumbered women overall, the highest number of students took 15 hours and the fresh- man class was the largest. Availability of classes, as usual, was the chief prob- lem. Few students were able to complete registration without stopping at least once to rearrange schedules and consult advisors on possible alternatives. Another problem for students was the inevitable rise in fees, resulting from inflation ' s effect on the price of food and energy and from the addition of cable TV to several of the newer dorms. Seemingly this increase in the price of college deterred few because students man- aged to squeeze into the crowded space anyway, and over 100 students were housed in local hotels for several weeks when dorms were overloaded. 23
