First, it offers instruction to aid all students in meeting common speech situations. Second, it attempts to help students correct sub-standard speech which may be a handicap to them. Third, it trains majors and minors to meet professional needs. department of music The Department of Music offers a variety of courses and activities enabling students to express themselves through music. Courses are offered in music appreciation, theory, and history. Degrees may be obtained with em- phasis on piano, organ, voice, band instruments, or other instruments. Students may participate in the band, or- chestra, stage band, or choir. dr. robert t. mckibben dean of school of education school of education carolyn gamble, secretary Preparing future teachers, future farmers, future athletic directors and future home- makers are four of the many objectives of the School of Education headed by Dean Robert T. McKibben. Within the school are the departments of education, agriculture, health and physical education, and home economics. The school coordinates programs in the college leading to certification for teaching or school service. The Department of Education strives to equip students for entrance into and success in the teaching profession and thus to further the education of children and youth of Texas. Last year the department inaugurated the only pro- gram in rehabilitation education offered in the Southwest.
