Hoya Memorial Library This library and museum was originally the home of Adolphus Sterne. Sam Hous- ton was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church in this home in 1833, with Mrs. Sterne as his Godmother. 6

It is believed that the Mound Civilization lived in this area before the Indians. These mounds may have been burial places. In the past they have lined either side of Mound Street, this one, now, is the only one left of this Mound Civilization. The Indian Mound, 5 6 North Mound Street. The Old Stone Fort It is believed that The Old Stone Fort was originally built by Antonio Gil Y ' Barbo in 1779, to be used as a trading post. It was originally located at the corner of Main and Fredonia. It was reconstructed as part of the Texas Centennial Program for the Texas Revolution, in 1936. It was then placed on our campus, using the stones from the original fort. The fort has been held and garrisoned at various times by Spain, Mexico, The Republic of Texas, The Confederacy, and The United States.

Christ Episcopal Church Christ Church was the first Protestant Church building in the City of Nac- ogdoches. It was constructed in 1849 on the Frost Thome homestead. The Church is now located at the corner of Mound Street and Starr Avenue.
