Student BOB CLAIBORNE President SAM AKIN Vice President FLO TERRY Secretary-Treasurer DEAN MARY THOMPSON DEAN R. H. SHELTON Sponsors Serving as a channel through which the student body may cooperate to the fullest extent with the faculty and administration, the Student Congress has striven to bring about an increased interest in student affairs and the reali- zation of the possibilities of an active and unified student body. The Student Congress is made up of a President, Vice- President, Secretary-Treasurer, and representatives from each class. The three student body officers and class presi- dents are elected in a general election held in the late spring of each year. The class representatives are chosen by class elections at the beginning of the Fall semester. The year 1953-54 has been a prosperous one for the Student Congress. Representatives attended the T.I.S.A. Executive meeting in Waco and the annual T.I.S.A. Con- vention at S. M. U. in Dallas. Some projects carried on by the group this year was the sale of calendars, helping to establish an intra-club coun- cil, and the purchase of chorus books for All College De- votion. The last big event carried out by the Student Con- gress was the sponsoring of Lumberjack Appreciation Night, in honor of the basketball team. 28
