QOOEUm Mr. Edward Ed Watson was a native and lifelong resident of Port Arthur. He served in many capacities in P.A.I.S,D. as a teacher, assistant principal, principal of Lincoln High School; Cur- riculum Director and Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Ed- ucation and Director of Athletics for P.A.I.S.D. The 1989 Eagle salutes him because he was A Class Above the Best? MR. WATSON ZOwH?OHUmU ?HAanwm FACULTY TEACHING PLUS The faculty and staff at Stephen F. Austin had more to accomplish then academic excellence in the classroom. To strengthen the academic pro- gram, contributions to extra curricular activities was essential. Some of the programs provided in 1988-89 were the ttChristmas in the Air8 concert, ttAll City Bandtt concert, St. Elizabethts ttSpinal Cord Injl-ry program, ttGeography Beef and a schoolwide spelling bee. The faculty produced plays, sports activities, attended tournaments, assisted students in pro- viding food for needy families, supported ac- ademic programs, and put studenfs works on, display. They also traveled to gain new expe- riences to be passed on to the students. News- letters and aWards were created, ticket booths manned, andvparents were mailed positive let- ters about their children. The faculty and staff worked extra hours dur- ing 88-89 and these were the reasons that Austin is a class above the best. mmeam Abbott, Kirk D. Akers, Melanie Alpough, Brice R. They came within arms reach of the playoffs. The coaches marched the side lines, watching with eagle eyes, while the team worked for every inch of ground needed to reach the goal line. The students, faculty, and administrators shouted for victory, and cried during defeats. All ofthe time, money, tears, and joys will be remembered as the team prepares for next season. A young team will wear the suits of honor in 1989-90. The plan of attack of 89 is to have the spirit of brotherhood among the players; play more team ball. The playoffs is the goal that is set Robert Taylor and Jeff Reed will be the leaders ofthe pack when the season kicks off. 105 dequonk 03000 .520 wEO .anm ooh.
