Austin 1985-86 TEACHER OF THE YEAR Claudine Patterson attended Tyrrel in Elementary school, Woodrow Wilson in Jr. High school, and Thomas Jefferson in High school. She went on to at- tend Lamar State College and Sam Houston State University. Mrs. Patterson has earned a Bachelor 0! Science degree in Biology and a Masterhs degree in Mid- management hadministraliony Since she has been part of the SFA teaching staff she has organized and sponsored the Academic Decathlon team, for SFA, worked with Science tutorials, been co-sponsor ot the National Junior Honor Society, sponsored Science UIL, and acted as leader of the Science department. In doing this the Eagles won both the 400 meter and 1600 meter relays. Top SFA finishers were: Derek Moore 1st in 400 m and 3rd in long iump, Kenneth Ford 2nd in the 100 m, John Evans 2nd in shot put, Brian Hall 2nd in 200 and 3rd in 100 meters; Chris Hilstock 3rd in 400. SFA compiled a total of 113 points to win the meet 20 points ahead of 2nd place Anahuac. Jules Barnes hands off to Curtis Hebert in Robert Carrier, Joseph Ceaur and Shane Freshman 1600 meterrelay. REGULAR SEASON STATEMEET The SFA Powerlitting team showed everyone that they are the best in the state by win- ning the State Powerlifting Meet. Kip Texada with 1385 and Brian Hall with 1100 earned individual crowns as state champs placing first in their weight classes. Chris Smith and Daryl Jones earned runner-up spots. Fredrick Rhine placed tifth in his weight class completing the scoring for SFA. The Eagles compiled a total of 25 points to piece first in a field of 54 teams. Dis- tant 2nd and 3rd place finishers with 16 points was Lake Highlands and Athens. REGIONAL MEET SFA showed its superiority by blowing away a field 01 schools to capture the Regional Championship. First place finishers were Brian Hall, Daryl Jones and Kip Tex- ada. 2nd place finishers in- cluded Kenneth Everfield, Chris Smith and Fredrick Rhine. 3rd place finishers were Byron Owens and Roderick Batiste, Barely miss- ing a trip to state, fourth place finishers were Glen Batiste and Jason Chenault. After win- ning regional the Eagles set their sights on state. Once again the SFA Powerlifting team had a successful year. The Eagles brought home four meet championships which included SFA, South Park, Regional and State. The Eagles placed 2nd at Bridge City and Aldine. The Eagles, success can be contributed to a fine roup of athletes of course, but Coach Jim Yarberry deserves a lot of credit. He began FAis powerlifting program in 82 and through patience and great coaching. watched it become the best in the state in 86 bringing home a state championship. GIRLS TRACK Sara Arnaud successfully completes another iump. Sara breezed through district action and captured iirst place at the district meet. In regional action, Sara placed third barely missing a chance to go to the state meet. Ava Carruth inot picturedi is another Girlis Track Standout.
