Dr. L. A. Yates has been more of a close friend to the students of our school than a principal. Dur- ing transition. one may find him in the main hall, arms crossed, face friendly but observant and always willing to help any student with any problem he may have. He received his B.S. and M.S. at L.S.U. and his E.D.D. at the Univ. ofHouston. Before coming here, he was the assistant principal at Edison. On June 9, 1943 he married Dorothy and now has one daughter, Lynne Ann, age 14. His favorite hobby is golf and he may add jokingly, running Stephen F. Austin.
