Nor ever tails the dazzling, heart'ning gleam. The schools a tow'ring light, a beam To cut the murk ot mental night. With book, and bell, and new device, The structure rises to the upper heightg Makes truth ot youth's young dream. The teacher is the mason of the towerg The plodding toiler in the whirring depths, Or one who grinds the lens that all may see ln far or near, in large or small, The penetrating, white lights blazing power. And two, untimely, heard the passing bell. Lifes classbook still in hand, they said tarewell. No time for grades or token ot success, No hour tor summary or last report To say, Thou taithtul servant, 'twas done well. But it one whisper comes from yesteryear: You gave me courage trueg you banished tear. Your counsel pictured hope ot better dayse- Then service is transtormedy the guerdon's gold.
