24 STEINBACH BIBLE ACADEMY YEAR BOOK Life at the Boys ' Dormitory Although it has been very cold this winter, there has always been lots of ac¬ tivity in the dorm. We thank our Heaven¬ ly Father for supplying our physical needs by giving us the dormitory. As most boys do, we think that eating is a very important part of the daily routine, so when meal time comes around we take advantage of it — three times a day. Another important thing is sleep, which we get from 10:30 P.M. to 6:30 A.M. In spare moments one of the boys might get out his guitar, another his violin and stiil others their harmonicas, and play some well-known Christian Librarians at Work Why I came to Bible School Psalm 73:24 “Thou shalt guide me with thy coun¬ sel, and afterward receive me to glory”. As a school girl of ten or eleven years old it became my ambition to be a Chris¬ tian school teacher. In various ways God has guided me, and it was my privilege to teach school for five weeks as a sub¬ stitute teacher. When I taught Bible History and other related subjects, I realized that my know¬ ledge of the Bible was inadequate. I had a desire to attend a Bible School several years ago, but now I was positive that I wo uld never be a successful Christian teacher unless I acquired a better under¬ standing of the teachings of God’s Word. I prayed to my Lord for guidance, and the way was opened for me to attend the Steinbach Bible Academy. Elizabeth Rempel, songs. After study hours, which range from 7:30 to 9:30 we often gather to play quiet games, sing songs, or some¬ times just for a talk. Wednesday mornings are very impor¬ tant to us all. That is when we have our weekly prayer meeting, from which we derive many blessings. After the day is over, we quiet down to have our daily meditation on the Word of God and pray¬ er, each student in his own room. Thus have the pleasant days of the 49-50 school year passed. Its memories will however, linger on in years to come. Glen Iieimer. PRACTICAL HOUR “Practice, or experience is the best teacher.” Therefore we as student body and faculty gather for a brief period of practice in public performance every Wednesday noon hour — that is after we’ve enjoyed our lunch together as a family. Various groups take turns in putting up the programs. The poster on the bulletin board gives necessary information as to the nature of the meeting, including the names of main speakers, and also the time and place of the meeting to be rendered. Standing up before a critical audience, robs those not accustomed to public speaking of their self-confidence and composure. Unless you can rattle off your speech like the multiplication table, you are liable to get bungled up with your thoughts as well as your grammar. Our English teacher terms it, “thinking under pressure.” Some people seem to be born with the art of public speaking, and are in their element when it comes to addres¬ sing an audience. Others again can ac¬ quire it only through continual practice and perseverance. After the meeting, the teachers and students offer constructive criticisms and commendations which help us to learn by our mistakes. Not only do we appreciate this “Prac¬ tical Hour” because of its educational values, but because of the many spiritu¬ al blessings received through the Gospel messages, speeches, debates songs, poems and testimonies rendered. We trust that these meetings will help us to be better witnesses for Christ. — A Student.
