GRADE X CLASS REPORT “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.’’ II Tim. 2:15. We are not to study to show ourselves, but rather study to show ourselves ap¬ proved unto God; so that we will not bring reproach to’the Lord who commis¬ sioned us thus: “Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you . . Matthew 28:19-20. It is our desire to be fully surrendered to God, and to go where He will lead. “Though it be o’er the cold, dark mountain seeking His sheep, Or along by Siloam’s fountain, helping the weak.” Once a week Miss Twining comes from Winnipeg to teach Visiual Aids. It is a study of how to present Bible stories and object lessons with the flannel graph. Miss Twining gives us many helpful sug¬ gestions for getting the gospel across to the children. Exegesis is instructed by Mr. Schmidt. We are studying Genesis. A few of us are taking Ukrainian, taught by Mr. Wittenberg. If, in our fu¬ ture life, we come in contact with Ukrain¬ ians, this will be a help to us. Of course being high school students, our secular subjects take up the most of the time we spend in cultivating ourselves mentally; but we should not let the study c -Rain ' s history, of the surfaces and c of the earth, and of the other things we are to learn, crowd such an extent that we don’t the spiritual things. These were the words of Jesus At Gennesaret. “We’ve toiled all night”, said Peter, “And not a fish we’ve caught — But at Thy word dear Master, We will again launch out.” They drew a multitude of fish, A draught as ne’er before. The Lord has blessed because in faith They’d ventured from the shore. “Come follow me”, said Jesus, “From henceforth ye shall be Fishers of lost and dying men, Who ne’er have heard of me.” Are we afraid to leave the shore — Afraid of waters deep? Fear not, the hand that bids thee go, Will never fail to keep. At Thy word Lord we will launch out. We’ll fear not wind or wave, In faith we’ll seek the perishing Bound for a Christless grave. The shore with all its selfish joys May beckon us to stay — But we have cut the anchor, Christ’s summons to obey. Oh Lord, take Thou our sinful lives, And all that we possess! Tis only when we give our all, That Thou can’st truly bless. Teacher Training Classes “Suffer little children to come unto me.” “Peed my lambs.” These words of our Lord Jesus Christ express His con¬ cern for the children. The fact that His blood was shed for everyone, should spur us on to win the children for Him, be¬ cause more can be accomplished at this stage than when they are older. When we compare the thorough training that is needed for teachers of secular subjects whose results will usually last only a life¬ time, to the usual preparation of the Sun¬ day School teacher, whose work is done for eternity, we see that the proportion is greatly out of balance. It should show us the need of thorough preparation for our task. We had an opportunity to get some of this preparation during this past fall and winter, when Miss Twining of the Child Evangelism Fellowship gave teacher training classes every Monday evening in the Bible Academy. Before Christmas she gave us lectures on Child Evangelism and Visual Teaching; after New Year on Child Study and Sunday School A ' i- stration. In the Child Evangelism e 1 e were shown that children ’e Saviour as well as adults do our responsibility to help as early as possible and young lives to Him for service. Appropriate Scripture verses were memorized and hindrances were pointed out. The neces¬ sity of prayer was emphasized for with out it our efforts would be hopeless. In the Visual Teaching classes, flannel- ograph material and methods of using it were the main subjects. However, we were shown that it was not to be used for entertainment, but to make the Word of God clear, and to help the children memo¬ rize it, and to remember its lessons. The Bible is first and foremost, and the visual aids only a means to an end. Demonstra¬ tive lessons were given and preparation of lessons and material was discussed. To lead a child to Christ we must know both Christ, and the child. The Child Study lessons led us into an examination of the laws governing the nature and the growth of a personality. We were given an insight of the child’s characteristics at different stages of development and shown how his personality might be in¬ fluenced to develop a strong Christian character. The study of Sunday School Admini¬ stration showed us how to make our Sun¬ day School more efficient. Just as a bu¬ siness man wants efficiency in his busi¬ ness to get the most out of his invest¬ ments, so a Sunday School can be operat- Continued on page 37
