Gang omprised of eleven Machinist Mates, Enginemen, and Fire- man, A-Crang is responsible for maintaining the widest variety of equipment and spaces on the ship. STEIN'S galley equipment, laundry, diesels, boats, steering gear, air conditioning and heating equip- ment, air compressors, hot water heaters, and aviation fuel all come under A division's cognizance. lt is obvious to see how much the ship depends on A C1ang's efforts. In the desert, it was doubly important to have all equipment Cooled properly as well have air conditioning, laundry, and galley equipment in working order to preserve morale. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, the ship's Boiler Techs fBTl precisely monitor and operate the ship's boilers and all their support systems, including fuel, feed water, and the complex of pumps and piping that move it all around. By the end of the deployment, the BT 's had logged nearly 4,000 hours of ensuring the engine room and generators were kept supplied with high quality steam. B Division 11
