CARNIVAL The annual Steele City carnival which was held Octoberh, l9L6 was declared a great success by student body and visito li ' rs a ke Between events on the mid way everyone enjoyed the entertain ment ld d prov e by two free icture shows entitled ' v and 'Sun Valley,' both ln teghnlcolor ' Na eJoleud' A program that was given to a full house consisted of a one act play and musical selections by the High School and Grade School children Vernon Cassell and Ruth Hiatt contributed vocal and accordion solos, respectively The cast of the one act play 'Strictly Freshmen ' di school pupils The balloting during the evening elected Louise Kozak carnival queen Everyone enjoyed the mid way attractions which were directed by the high school pupils The stands provided entertainment for old and young alike On the mid way was found A fortune telling booth, lunch counter, dart throw, perny toss grab bag, wheel of chance, bingo and many other equally entertaining attractions The closing event of the evening was the drawing for door prizes that had been donated by patrons and business men Some of the outstanding prizes and the winners were the pig,'Petunia' donated by Mr Novotny was won by Wm Seachord lThe 150 pound pig netted S70 which amount was used to purchase library books for the school J An angel food cake donated by Mrs Wilcox was won by Mrs Payne, Bethel Hendricks won the rooster given by Mrs Hiatt At bingo Gladys Lampe won the goose given by Mrs Novotny and Agnes Moorman won the rooster given by Mrs Kulhenek Mrs Palmer won the box of candy on the corn guessing game , rected by Mrs Hiatt was made up of high 'BACK T0 SCHOOL NIGHT' On November 15 l9L6, during American Education Week, at 8 OO P M the pupils of the Steele City School were in their seats Night school was being held so the people and parents of the community could see school in session A large crowd observed the recitations After classes e social hour was enjoyed by everyone Refreshments were served by the teachers and Senior Glrls Tne schedule that was used was as follows SCH DULE Hi h School Sociology English 9 10 Biology Typing Algebra English ll 12 U r Grades Nelson th and 8th Histor? th and 6th English KCurrent Events!
