CONTENTS Student Life...............6 Faculty.................11 Classes...............14 Sports 42 4 Dedication to Mr. Sauer Steamboat Springs is fortunate to have a man that has distinguished himself from others in service to the betterment of its youths. This man is Mr. George P. Sauer, who has been Superintendent of School District RE-2 for the past twenty-six years and has spent forty-five years in the education of boys and girls. Mr. Sauer began his teaching career in 1930 at the age of 19 in a one room rural school in Lincoln County Col- orado. This was the beginning of his dedicated life in education. He came to Steamboat in 1943 as a teacher of Science and Band. Mr. Sauer became Principal of the High School in 1945, and by 1949 was the Superintendent of the District. Through the years Mr. Sauer has taught all grades, first through twelfth, and has also been a college instructor. He has seen this district grow from seventeen teachers in 1943 to over eighty teachers in 1975. Much of this growth has happened through the ready, willing, and able services of Mr. Sauer. Because of the concern, patience and dedication of this man, we would like to dedicate the 1975 Sailor’s Log to Mr. George P. Sauer, Superintendent of the Steamboat Springs schools. 5 Life” ¥ ¥ 4 Mr. Pinkston Mr. Lear Mr. Sauer Junior-Senior Administrative Superintendent Seminar Asst. Coach Lear was happy to place third in the conference, but was a bit disappointed that the team didn’t do better. “What really hurt us was the loss of two of the teams’ outstanding halfbacks, John Claussen and Mark Muth.” All things con- sidered, the team did an outstanding job. r r in m. r % I rs, ID Qi ai Varsity backs are (1) Mike Streeter, (2) Doug Swinehart, (3) Greg Haight, (4) Greg Richards, (5) Ron Doty, (6) Dan Bristol, (7) Chuck Bailey, (8) John Claussen, (9) Sam Dietrich, (10) Craig Green, (11) J.P. GYMNASTS END SEASON BY GOING TO STATE Coach Fran Jenkins feels that with the help of Assistant Coach, Mary Villa, the Gym- nastics team did much better this year than in years past. Many of the girls went all around, giving the team a much better chance of placing in their meets. In fact, the team did so well this year that they were the only AA school to take their whole team to state. Coach Jenkins foresees a great year for the gymnasts in 1975, and hopes that more people will come out to support the girls at their meets. Steamboat Skiing Downhill racer, Lonny Vanatta, in action. How Far ’Til The Clearing? Through the deep, dark forest of pine I hope to discover that which is mine. For who’s to say what fate may hold? Or what the future may unfold? Many paths I have tread and often been lost; eager to find myself--not knowing the cost. Pausing to wonder which way to go- confused, I just hope that soon I’ll know. Should I follow the river, the stars, or the wind? How long will it take and where will it end? Should I take my time or blindly run? Oh, can’t you help me . . . anyone? Reaching out for something that 1 hope will last . then remembering what has happened in the past. But if I don’t hold on, it may forever be gone- and it’s a wearisome wait from dusk till dawn. Through mud, and snow, and grass, and leave’s, hoping to go where I want to be. And if by chance I don’t find what I hoped for, perhaps it wasn’t meant to be . .. but I hope you do find yours By: Dawn Butchart February 1975 STUDENT COUNCIL 1974-75 Student Council members (L-R) Advisor, Mr. Rombers, Doug Compe- stine, Chuck Albright, Carolyn Croes, Dawn Butchart, Doug Swinehart, Rusty Rose, and Jayne Elken.
