. . . The doors through which we pass, . . . tbe corridors, . . . the minutes of socia- bilities before class . . . the class rooms . . . youth coming and going. Education is a door - a gateway to a fuller, richer life. Look through these portals. See and remember the opportunities and challenges that are presented through experiences at Steamboat Springs High School. Sailor s Log STEAMBOAT SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL STEAMBOAT SPRINGS. COLORADO STEAMBOAT SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY Our Town I am the Town. My people have built me from a pioneer settlement to a thriving town. I hold many memories in my soul of strength and weakness, growth and destruction, of hope and despair, laughter and tears, of all the emotions that hold the people who are my throbbing, living heart. I have seen human lives begin, develop, and peacefully end. I have seen the exhilaration of the youngsters who have lived within my reach as they leave my arms with rapidly beating hearts. I have seen these same youngsters return happily to my protective, comforting haven. I am the Town and these are my people. These People Serve Us Left to right; Mr. Donald Wither. Mr. Oliver Bartholomew, Mr. Robert Gleason, Mr. George Sauer, Mr. Stanton Fetcher, Mr. Marvin Brown. MRS. CLARE CRUSE Secretary MRS. MABEL WHITEMAN Office Clerk Board of Education MR. GEORGE P. SAUER Superintendent Colorado State College (M. A.) SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 1961 I wish success and happiness to the members of this class. But neither success nor happiness is ever acquired by wishing. Men who have attained things worth having in this world have worked while others idled, have persevered when others gave up in despair, have practiced early in life the valuable habits of self-denial, industry, and singleness of purpose. As a re- sult, they enjoy in later life the success so often erroneously attributed to good luck. Happiness cannot be bought with money. It is not related to wealth. It cannot be acquired by traveling about the world in search of it. It is something that happens within us where- ever we may be. Someone has said, Happiness is not a monopoly. No one can corner it. It is for sale in the market place of life for everyone who is willing to pay the price. He who gives it to others gets a double measure for himself. May God bless each of you abundantly. George P. Sauer Superintt dent of Schools PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 1961 School is a combination of many things, not the least of which are the activities portrayed in this Annual. As a par- ticipant or as a spectator, you have benefited from them in as much as they have helped you become apart of the Steam- boat Springs High School. May the loyalties that you have shown to your school become attached to other institutions that make this country what it is. Clarence Gardner Principal MR. All girls must go through a pledging period of one semester in which they must give 25 hours of service to the club. If, at the end of one semester, they have earned 25 hours, the girls then become active members and start working for their pins. The activities this year included basketball, volleyball, pep club, and a volleyball playday in March. J. C. PENNEY CO. MAX’S CONOCO FRONT ROW; K. Ramsey, L. Blecha, J. Maguire, G. Klein, C. CHIEF THEATER Farewell As seniors, we pass slowly out of these doors that have seen so many come and go. All too quickly we hear the doors of the years past, quietly shutting behind us; and we go forth eagerly to open the doors to the future and whatever it may bring. For when one door is shut - another opens. mm jgasf
