R V HRLE OF R 'BOOK Look not into the Past--It comes not back again Wisely improve the Present--It is thine-- Go forth to meet the shadowy future without fear. And with a manly heart. We Dedicate This 1954 SAILOR to you the Students President, Bud Werner Vice President, Verla Cox Secretary, Carolyn Shelton Treasurer, Norma Wilson Take time to think—you can do more work with your head than you can do with your feet. Superintendent and Principal's Message It is again a privilege to make a small coi tribution to the annual. I hope that what I sj in this message will give some inspirationi the members of the Class of 1954. Lavater has said, The great rule of mori conduct is, next to God, to respect time. Or of Franklin's adages reads, Dost though lov life? -- Then do not squander time, for that the stuff life is made of. All of us draw the same salary in second minutes, and hours each day. The minut wasted yesterday are as lost as a vanished though Don't waste time worrying about what migh happen; spend it making things happen. Stop saying, If I had time, for you wi 1 .never find time for anything--if you want timi 1 you must take it. Act toward people as thougl this might be your last day on earth. Don't wai I for tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes. Someone has said, Character is the resul of two things; mental attitude and the way w spend our time. ” It is my wish that we, ii Steamboat Springs High School, have helpei you develop a fine mental attitude and som habits of the worthy use of time. My best wishes for your future. Sincerely yours, GEORGE P. SAUEI It is my sincerest wish to the graduating class of 1954 that as you are about to step off into a career of your own in this world, you pause a moment and re- flect upon the past achievements and failures you have made and then take time to project your thoughts into the future so that in order to think upon those things that will enable you to better serve the com- munity in which you will live. Take time to build a better world for yourselves. Take time to live a full life, intellectually, morally and physically. All of my time shared with you the past four years has been most worthwhile and I sincerely trust that you have profited by the time that you have spent in attending high school. With the very best of wishes for the success of each and everyone of you I am. Most sincerely yours, MILLER J. STEWART Lives of great men all remind us, We can make our lives sublime. You'll walk to classes like other boys. Mrs. Franz: Are you the boy who jumped into the river and saved my daughter? Gene C: Yes, Ma'am. Traffic Officer: How can you be so sure you weren’t exceeding the speed limit? Tom H. I was on my way to the dentists. Mrs. Franz: Well, where are her overshoes? Mr. Telk: Where was the Declaration of Independence signed, Norman? Norman S.: At the bottom, I suppose. Coach Telk: No, you must’nt smoke. Mr. Boge: Give me an example of wasted energy, Tom. Tom J.: Telling Mr. Stewart a hair-raising story. Dick T.: Ask mother if we can go to the movies. Jerry T.: You ask her, you’ve known her longer than I have. One of the girls in the senior class had received an engagement ring the night before but to her chagrin no one at high school noticed it. Finally in the after- noon, when her friends were sitting around talking, she stood up suddenly. My it’s hot in here, she announced. I think I’ll take off my ring. ” Angry boss: You should have been here at nine! LaRae B.: Why? What happened? When Larry G. came to school, Stewart P. ’s dog rushed across the street and licked his face. Larry screamed and Stew came running. Did my dog bite you? asked Stew. No, sobbed Larry, But he tasted me! Mr. Stewart received the following note from Mrs. Bryan: Please excuse Betty for being late this morning. Nine o'clock came sooner than we expected. If you can't laugh at the jokes of the age — Laugh at the age of the jokes. As Barbara S. stepped off the scales Cheron C. asked, What's the verdict? A little overweight? Oh, no, replied Barbara, But according to the height table printed on that scale, I should be about six inches taller. Dude S.; Hey, rabbit, what are you doing in my ice box?” Live rabbit; Ain't this a Westinghouse? Dude: Yes Rabbit: Well, I's westing.
