Text from Pages 1 - 144 of the 1951 volume:

A UteMoye It has been a privilege to work with the students, and faculty of Steamboat Springs Schools for another school term. I extend my heartiest thanks for your support and for your loyalty. To the mem- bers of the class of 1951, I extend my best wishes for successful happy lives. I wish that my message to you could be one of joy and happiness. I wish that it would not be necessary for me to tell you that you face grave responsibilities as you go out into a very troubled world. The fate of this great nation lies as much in your hands as it has in the hands of any other generation. It has never been necessary for the people of our nation to be guided by a despot or dictator. The reason for this is that all freedom and all democracy are based on self-guidance, on self-discipline. If you would keep this great nation of ours free you must learn self-discipline. I hope that I have made at least some small contribution helping each of you toward a well-adjusted life. Sincerely, George P. Sauer Supt. of Schools 'PfU tcifi4l'4 TtteAteiye To the graduating Class of 1951, I wish to commend you upon a job well done. As you are about to take up your full share of the world's responsibilities I would ad- monish you to be ever mindful of living a well balanced life. Be honest, sincere, and truth- ful in all dealings with your fellowman. Keep your spiritual ideals as much to the forefront as you do your ideals of business and pleasure. So discipline yourself that you will not break under the strain of ayworld in turmoil. As General Robert E. Lee once said, Do in all thicks, no one expects you to do moreJ Y J shouldinever want to do less. Most sincerely, Miller J. Stewart Z). In sincere appreciation of her loyalty to us and our school, of her cheerful assistance in solving our many problems, of her willingness to give of her time and effort to encourage and guide us through our many trials and heartaches, and finally, in appreciation of her unselfish devotion to us in spite of our deeds and misdeeds, the Annual Staff, dedicate this 1951 an- nual to Miss Patricia Stevenson. A tournament held at Craig on Feb. 9th and 10th saw the Sailors place third and carry away two trophies and several medals. Richard Vernon in the 154 lb. class is conference champ. Bill Haight in the 145 lb. class is conference champ. Douglas Ross-Douglas Sherrod, Gary Gates, Wille Sten- der, Reid Bartlett and Don Ellifritz all placed third. Glenn Arnold placed second. XMAS PROGRAM The theme of the Christmas program, 1950 was the Carol of the Bells.” The bells tolled out the story of Christmas, of the birth of Christ. This nativity was presented by the High School with Junior High actors and the Chorus. The first part of the program was an adaptation of the Nutcracker Suite.” The children of the grades act- ed and danced the parts, while the Concert Band and High School Chorus played and sang the musical backgrounds. The scenes came forth from the Toyland Castle built especially for the purpose. r f. msA'I The Junior Play, SEVEN SISTERS, a comedy by Edith Ellis, was presented Nov. 17 and 18, directed by Jeannette Larson. The story takes place in a typical Hungarian home. Widow Gur- kovich is having trouble finding husbands for Katinka, Sari, and Ella the older of her seven daughters. Her problem is complicated by the fact that she is bound to the old custom of marrying off her daughters in the order of their ages. Mitzi, the fourth daugh- ter, 19, has been expelled from school for running away to a masque ball and returns home in disgrace. In order to help her sister's matrimonial chances, she is reduced to the age of 15. After considerable intrigue on the part of Horkoy, Mitzi's young lieutenant, husbands are found for the older girls, and Horkoy claims Mitzi as his reward.
