CC xy 7, loaf orizon On April 30 and May 1, Stayton High School presented its first all-school play in many years. The play given was james Hilton's Lost Horizonf, The dramatization of Hilton's most famous novel was highly successful. The presentation of Lost Horizonn was the first serious play to be presented by a high school cast in many years. But it is hoped that the trend to better drama will not stop with this one play. Lost Horizon's cast was selected from all classes in school. Each class had at least two representa- tives on the stage. Some of the cast were making their first appearances on the high school stage and others were making their farewell appearances. For Gay Lesley, Darla Davidson, Mildred Pierce, Gene Small, Ed Small and Dave York this was their first high school playg while Seniors Lavon Humphrey and Dwight Shelton were making their last appearances. And Kent Hindes made Lost Horizon his first and last dramatic effort for Stayton High. Mary Robl, Carmella Burch, Bill Trask and jim Goss took up where they left off in the junior Class Play. The cast of Lost Horizon was not the only group to contribute to the success of this play. Much of the play's effectiveness was due to the stage crews who worked tirelessly for a better play. Jack Darley, the student director, spent much of his time seeking lights, props, etc., while jim Prugh, Bettye Bentley, Bob Carter, Elmer Morley and Jack Roy contributed much of their time on various phases of set con- struction, as did Clara Marie Harold and Bernice Bowers on handling the advertising, ticket sales and programs. The make-up department was aided greatly with the assistance of Nova Ann Gerath, Joanne Boothe, Pauline Bridges, Doris Rogers and Dorothy Mason and Miss Pat Woods did an excellent job on costuming the cast. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about the play was the support and acclaim given to the cast and crews by the people of Stayton. Many of the Stayton townspeople took it upon themselves to advertise the play and to pass their words of praise along. Lost Horizon with its presentation at Stayton High School has proven that the students can pre- sent and enjoy good theatre. Also, that the towns- people of Stayton appreciate and approve of SHS theatrical advancement. ilu. nun-
