fiilbs fb rl, x X e Ks, , H FRESHMAN CLASS HISTORY Monday morning September l6, 1946, sixty-two very green and bewildered freshmen entered the doors at Stayton High. At the first class meeting, Mrs. Bertha McDaniel was chosen class advisor and the following officers were elected: President o 0 o 1 o o Q c 0 o A n 0 e s Roy Brown Vice-president . . . . . .Lowell Nightingale Secretary-treasurer. . .'. . . . . . . Nina Harold Sergeant at-arms . . . . . . . . . . . David Brown Student council representative . .Dorothy Williams l On the fatal day of October 2, we were initiated. The girls had to wear long handled underwear, a galosh on one foot and a bed-room slipper on the other. Their hair had pin curls on one side, curlers on the other, and braids in the back and front with green ribbons attached. Each girl carried a buck- et, a mop, and shoe polish. d The boys wore a halter and a skirt six inches above the knee, a bandana on their heads, a dress shoe on one foot, and a boot on the other. Each carried a broom, a dust pan, and shoe polish. ' We had to carry books from class to class for the Soph- omores. polish their shoes and kneel down and touch our noses to the floor. Some had to mop the streets or crawl across on hands and knees. That evening we were given a very enjoyable party by the Sophomores. We played games, went on a treasure hunt, and had ice cream and cookies for refreshments. A return party was given the Sophomores November 5. Sev- eral of the teachers joined in the exciting games which brought squeals of laughter from the on lockers. One of the highlights of the evening was a string-chewing contest. .XX X X QQ
