THE ECHO PRESENTS A Journey Through FOREWORD This is our school! We are proud to be a part of it! Each little event added to the big moments makes our school life an industrious and happy one. Taking partin the many activities, attending the various school parties, and watching the mighty eleven fight on the gridiron are just a few of the many mem- ories we wish to recall. 2 Staunton High School Staunton, Illinois TABLE OF CONTENTS Title 1 Theme 2 Classes 5 Administration 9 Faculty 13 Seniors 15 Juniors 33 Sophomores 39 Freshmen 43 Activities 47 Organizations 61 Athletics 69 Miscellaneous 80 3 , Waiting for the bell Getting excuses Time for lunch Who stacked my locker? Being on the other side of the desk brings a new concept of teaching and of understanding the problems of others. To be a mortician requires a special kind of personality and skill. Investigating this profession is Allen Johnson, shown with Jim Williamson and John Ficker, Former work experience students. Wl1 Mrs. Moggio, Audrey, Carol, Diane, Marilyn Davison Mr. Rueter, Mrs. Sparr, Ronnie, Gary, and Dave Miss Makuh and Carole Mr. Ficker, Mr. Williamson, and Allen Mr. Haynes and Ed A Vocation Jean and Mrs. Roatch Mrs. Barnes, Jeff, Dennis and Bob Mr. Davison and Eugene Mr. Maddox, Barry, Ron and Dave Mrs. Lantermo and Sharon Mr. Mountain, Dean, and Norm Secondary teaching offers a challenge and many opportunities. Mrs. Roatch, Mrs. Barnes, Mr. Mountain, and Mr. Maddox serve as supervisors for those who wish to consider this Profession. Eunice Lantermo's Beauty Shop offers a vocational opportunity to study the work involved in beauty culture. The Staunton Community Memorial Hospital offers actual experience for potential nursing, laboratory technicians. X-ray technicians, and specialized office workers. Former work experience students, Joan Vesper, Donna Walz, Judy Schuette and Ruth Ann Ficker are now serving the hospital. Fischer Insurance Company offers experience in another branch of specialized office work. Rexall Drug Store pharmacists, Noel and Walton Fritz have very ably directed interested students in investigation of the duties of a pharmacist. Six former work experience students are currently studying in Schools of Pharmacy. OUR FATE AND OUR FUTURE The 1961-62 basketball season provided the students and the fans with thrills and disappointments. The players displayed a competitive spirit with a desire to win. The fans were enthusiastic, but evidenced good sportsman- ship. The way our team played the game compensated for the overall record of 8 victories and 12 defeats. A slow clock” ora fast whistle could have made a difference in the games we played with Gillespie. They won all three by a total-small margin of four points. However, the break came our way when Bob made the basket in the last few seconds of the Mount Olive game. Wonder what would have happened if the FLU BUG had bitten the ball instead of the players?? The quick thinking of Eugene - the rebounding of Norm - and the capable subbing of Dave will leave gaps to be filled next year.
