SPCMSOFED BY THE SENICF CLASS STANDING: J. Looser, Miss Harristhal, M. Bauman. SEATED: J. S trie gel, M. Rosenthal, M. Best, A. Fischer, L Beyer, L. Bond, C. Wall B. Guiliacci. Our year of hard labor has come to a close, and we must confess that we are glad. Still, we have had many good times working here at school in the evenings. We wish to thank the faculty and the student body for being patient the many times that we have inter- rupted classes to get the pictures for this book. Since all of the staff are seniors, we have worked very hard to make this book a good-final memory of our class. ADMINISTRATION- DON BEANE superintendent WILBUR BIN6MANI ASST. PRINCIPAL i F. SPEECH CONTEST Staunton, in competition with twelve other high schools, was represented at the district speech contest in five events. The one act play, “Fog on the Valley”, and Don Fischer, radio speaker, were eligible for the sectional contest. The other three contestants performed in a manner of which we can be proud. SENIOR PLAY The senior play, The Little Dog Laughed , will be presented April 25. The play is dif- ferent from the usual productions in that the audience will be able to see action of the living room, on the front porch and on the sidewalk in front of the house. Much of the success of the play will be in the hands of the stage manager, Lenny Rennei, the Chairman of the scenery crew, Dean Brauer, and Mr. Schnaare. Every senior is placed on some crew and their united efforts makes the play a success. The cast: Joyce Striegel, Norma Pervinsek, Pauline Otten, Shirley Rauzi, Nettie Milligan, Fred Stein, Don Beane, Dominic Picco, Delmer Jarman, Olive Jones, Lucille Bond, Shirley Martinelli, Marilyn Bauman, Merlyne Best, Jim Zuchek, Dale O'Neal, Jim Looser. CONTEST PLAY MUSIC: BAND The music department had a pretty busy first semester. One of the big events of the Glee Club was taking part in the Choral Festival at Carlinville 111. The director of this mass Chorus was Stan Halfvarson of Aurora, 111. Ap- proximately seven towns took part in this all day affair, with Staunton having the largest group participating. The band has given one concert which was presented on November 20, with Karl L. Toenjes, tuba soloist. As we go to press the band is preparing for other concerts which will probably be very successful. Forty-two high school and grade school students make-up the S. C. H. S. band. The speech department dramatized the Christmas Chimes while a small group of boys and girls supplied music in the background. One-hundred sixty-five students took part in tne singing of the favorite carols which proved to be a great success. w n £?vs' o o rv n o on o FIRST TENOR; H. Zude, M. Stein, D. Scheller, K. Chapter was organ- ized in October, 1950, and chartered March 17, 1951. The Primary aim of the F. F. A. is the development of Agricultural leadership, cooperation, and citizenship. Bi-monthly meetings are held at 9;45 a. m. on Thurs. and monthly meetings are held on the third Wed. evening in the Vocational Agriculture classroom. Occasionally these evening meet- ings are held jointly with near-by chapters. They are closed with a recreation period and refreshments. The Annual German Club party was held in the high school cafeteria on Jan. 21, this year. A dinner, prepared and served by members of the club featured such typical German dishes as Sauerbraten and Pumpernickel. Eighty people, including the high school faculty and Spanish Club, attended, and after the dinner were entertained by a German band, folk singing and dancing, and accordion solos. Four freshmen boys, wearing bright red vests, waited on tables. German class members wore appropriate costumes, and table decorations and programs carried out the foreign language theme. SPANISH CLUB On December 20, the Spanish n class entertained all members of the Spanish Club, German Club, and faculty with their annual Christmas fiesta. The class, dressed in Spanish costume, served a chili supper. Invitations, place cards, programs and tickets, designed by Carol Soens and painted by the class, were in Spanish. Following the supper the class presented a program in Spanish, and sang Christmas carols-- in Spanish and German, accompanied by Donald Kotzman. The party ended with dancing and the traditional breaking of the pinata. April 8-Representatives from both Spanish I and n took the State Spanish examination. Staunton High with a squad made up primarily of seniors, most of whom had lettered for three years and played for two years on the varsity, undertook quite a schedule this year. This was probably the toughest year in the history of our school considering the enrollment of the schools we played. Staunton lost to DeAndreis and Edwardsville, and that's all! With a game- ness and a desire to win they fought back from apparent defeat to beat Benld in the last few seconds and stay in the conference running. And on the last night of the season these Bulldogs trounced a good Mt. Olive team to win the conference trophy. FIRST TEAM «I 1952 BACK ROW: FRONT ROW: MANAGERS: W. Vesper, B. Cargoni, D. Jarman, J.
