Statesboro rated third place last year and sent several contestants to the State Meet in Macon. jere Fletcher, who placed third in the 100-yard dash and was barely nosed out for the first honors in the 220-yard dash, returns this spring and should cop several wins in the dashes and sprints. More enthusiasm is being shown by the boys this year than usual and all indica- tions point to a triumphant day for them, come April l7. S.H.S. grabs new honoi in track. One would think fall had returned to S.H.S. by the way juniors, sophomores, and freshmen are talking about football prospects. Every afternoon, the thud of the pigskin and the Hup-2-5-4 of calisthenics can be heard from the practice field. NY'ith eight returning lettermen and an undefeated B Team. Coach Hall has high hopes of building a champion- ship team during the annual spring practice. The coming of hot summer days turns one's thoughts to our swimming pool and all the picnics and jolly-good times that go hand in hand with this enjoyable past time. Our physical education pro- gram seems to be more active in the spring when everyone can be seen playing volleyball. pitching horseshoes, or 'Rocking the ole softball around the playground. Although Statesboro's season wasn't started with Ll bang it improved rapidly. Some nights they were good, other nights they were great but always when the going was tough, they came through with Flying Colors, and the hearts of the fans swelled with pride. Orchids to Shirley Gunter, for her outstanding playing! She scored 415 points for the season with -lane Beaver following up with 286. To Coach Godbee for the excellent job he has done this year we say Ll hearty THANK YOU! 95
