Literary Events As OUR BOOK GOES TO PRESS before preliminary contests are held, it is not possible for us to say who will represent us in the various literary events. However, we feel confident our contestants will give a good account of themselves, as they usually do, and We hope to bring home the cup which we missed last year by only one-half point. VIOLIN AND DECLAMATION Our representatives in these two events have already been selected and we take pride in the fact that Winona will represent us in violin and J. Brantley in declamation. We were represented in the preliminaries by J. Brantley Johnson and Alfred Merle Dorman on the negative, and Bettie McLemore and B. H. Ramsey on the aiiirmative. All four conducted themselves as veteran debaters and won both decisions,-affirmative against Metter and negative against Sylvania.

Coach Wollet was pleased with the squad but had difficulty in getting them in shape, due to their inexperience. Our first game was scheduled to be played at home with Glennville. Due to some misfortune the Glennville team did not arrive. For the next game we journeyed to Vidalia with high hopesg but these were dashed to pieces when we were defeated by the score of 25 to 0. The next game on the schedule was played in Statesboro with Savannah High. As Savannah is not a school of our rating, opinions were divided as to whether we would score. Some who held more radical views said we would defeat them, but those who held these views were disappointed when we were romped on to the tune of 35 to 0. The third game was with Sylvania and we were out to revenge the defeat which we had suffered the year before. We got this revenge after a hard-fought game, which ended with Statesboro on the big end of a 13 to 9 score. The Swainsboro game was played at home and was looked forward to with much interest. As we anticipated, we won this game with a large and easy score of 26 to 0. We went traveling for our next game, and journeyed to Millen. Victory was ours by 19 to 13. In all the season the team received very few injuries, but most of these came out of this game. The following week-end we met Waynesboro We were very uneasy about this game, but were surprised when we were able to hold Waynesboro to a 19 to 0 score
